The game is played on a 19x19 board, called Goban. Pieces are not placed in the squares, but on their intersections.
Each player, one after the other (white wins) places a piece of his color on the Goban. The goal is to place a row of 5 pieces of the player's color horizontally, Vertically or diagonally.
White's first move must be played on 'k10', in the middel. White's second move must be played at least 3 squares away from white's initial move.
The image below shows white's first move and black's answer. Then the second move of white who had to play outside the red square.
When a game is created, white's first move is automatically played.
